1.1. THE BIRTH OF EGYPTIAN CIVILISATION
Life in Egypt was possible thanks to the waters of the Nile river, because everything beyond its valley is desert.

Settlement grew and became independent cities ruled by monarchs. Around 3100 BC, the king Menes unified the territories of Upper and Lower Egypt and began the history of Egyptian civilisation.

Mummification was used to achieve this, whereby the body would become a mummy through a process that lasted 40 days:
- The brain is removed through the nose with a hook.
- The body was opened and all organs were removed except the heart and kidneys
- The organs are stored in special containers that represent the children of Horus
- The body is filled with perfumes, cinnamon and myrrh
- The body is covered with salt during 40 days
- The body is wrapped with bandages
- The mummy is deposited in a coffin with human form decorated with paintings
- Finally, the coffin is placed in a stone box
